Model Posing Guide

Let’s face it; glamour photography is enough of a challenge.  Coupled with proper lighting, exposure, external elements… the list goes on and on. You have a lot to think about during a shoot. As important as these elements are, they pale in comparison to making your model look the best she can be.

Think I am wrong? Show your model a picture where she looks fat! Then show her a picture where her body looks great, but the exposure is off. Do I have to answer which one she is going to complain more about???

Glamour photography has an evolution of sorts…in that we first learn how to capture an image, then properly expose and image. We learn some studio lighting; our composition gets better and so on. As hard as these hurdles are to overcome, they aren’t nearly as difficult as learning multiple “professional” poses for your glamour shots. This is where many experienced photographers drop the ball! I have trained many photographers while shooting models and I could retire…if I had a nickel for every time I heard, “okay, go ahead and do what feels comfortable.” what is that? You are a professional so act like one! You have to take direction of the shoot; you need to be your models mirror. You need to know “what feels comfortable” and what looks good.
